Mechanical Engineer Designer / FEA Analyst

Our client has engaged Bell & Associates to help them find their next Mechanical Engineer.  This person will perform engineering duties in planning, designing, analyzing and testing rail fastening products, tools and other mechanically-functioning equipment.



  • Create and maintain documentation of products, equipment and systems.

  • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.

  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.

  • Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications

  • Write and maintain quality control/quality assurance procedures, raw material specifications and conduct product failure analysis

  • Develop project objectives, submittals and test plans by reviewing customer specifications.

  • Determine the design process schedule by studying project plan and specifications as required by the project management group and upper management.

  • Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests

  • Work on multiple schedule driven assignments simultaneously while demonstrating a good time management skills

  • Work with minimum supervision following a project development process

  • Perform other assigned duties as determined by the Director of Engineering



  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience

  • 5-7 years working experience in design and project engineering preferred

  • Education, training or experience with the use, design and molding/manufacture of rubber, elastomeric and or thermosets preferred

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

  • Ability to communicate in technical and marketing information in a professional setting

  • Ability to identifying complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

  • Ability to identifying complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

  • Proficiency in using advanced features of SolidWorks, such as surfacing, complex assembling, mold tools, etc.

  • Solid experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) utilizing Ansys, Abaqus or similar.

  • Deep practical knowledge in GD&T and Drafting Standard.

  • Previous work experience related to Rail Road Industry is preferable.
