Our client has hired Bell & Associates to help them find their next Director of Supply Chain Materials Management. This person will provide leadership and management for the Materials Management program within the hospital/clinic system. They will direct, plan and organize the Purchasing, Supply Processing & Distribution, Receiving & Storage, and Linen/Laundry areas within the Hospital.


  • Establishes department/system goals and objectives consistent with the System's strategic plans and in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the company. 

  • Establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operations. 

  • Assures effective utilization of human, financial and facility resources, including materials management information systems in areas of responsibility. 

  • Develops and provides direction for department objectives, forecasts and budgets. 

  • Secures approval and monitors/reports status on such as requested. 

  • Works closely, collaboratively and acts as advisor/resource to all departments with regard to supplies, equipment, logistics and service needs. 

  • Introduces products that comply with current GPO contracts. 

  • Recommends capital and operating budgets necessary to accomplish departmental and hospital objectives. 

  • Adheres to budget as approved.

  • Develops, implements, supports and maintains customer-oriented service philosophy for all areas of responsibility. 

  • Establishes standards of service for internal and external customers and its measurements using the principles and practices of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). 

  • Provides time, material and facilities for personnel training and development -  including orientation program, patient focus care concepts and continuous improvement techniques.

  • Sets up and effects a perpetual inventory control system in multiple locations, establishing and maintaining inventory values that minimize investment, while maintaining maximum acceptable service levels. 

  • Leads Forms Management and Product Evaluation/Standardization efforts and serves on selected Hospital/system committees, as required.

  • Communicates effectively with Medical Staff, Administration, peers, subordinates, and all appropriate external contacts. 

  • Develops and maintains professional contacts. 

  • Maintains professional growth and development and remains abreast of developments and latest trends in areas of responsibilities.


         Monitors and evaluates productivity and performance against established standards for assigned areas.

         Puts in place systems to enhance knowledge, responsiveness and effectiveness and ensures that staff have the necessary resources to complete business processes. 

  • Assumes responsibility for knowing and maintaining established hospital and departmental objectives, policies/procedures including general sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

  • Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation.

  • Assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.

  • Participates in staff meetings and other inservices, meetings or committees as required.

  • Ensures compliance with company guidelines and local, state and federal laws and regulations for all areas of responsibility.


  • Bachelor s degree or proven relative experience in a Director level role
  • Evidence of strong leadership skills, drive and energetic/creative approach to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with departmental staff both intra and inter divisional as well as medical staff. 
  • Demonstrated quality, customer service orientation.
  • High degree of flexibility and motivation and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally/non-verbally and in writing.
