Director of Accounting Contract to Hire - $35 - $45/hr

 

$35-$45/hr contract, $60 - 80k if hired

Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client find their next Director of Accounting.  The Director of Accounting is responsible for all accounting functions (other than year-end certification by independent auditors). The position also has responsibilities in the area of budget creation

and compliance, cash management, financial statement preparation and analysis, payroll

administration, billing relations (including health insurance billing), and risk management.  This position is an officer of the company serving as the Secretary of the Board of Directors as well as on the

Executive Team. This person will report to the Chief Executive Officer.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Accurate, timely, and complete general ledger entry to GAAP and ECFA standards

  • Records and oversees cash receipts, account coding, entry, and deposits

  • Creates payment systems, approves cash disbursements and entry

  • Completes and reviews bank account(s) reconciliation

  • Posts accruals, adjustments, pre-paid, and deferred items

  • Conducts and oversees data entry and coding according to the company chart of accounts

  • Maintains oversight of accounts receivable and collections management

  • Supervises accurate, timely, and complete monthly billing

  • Facilitates health insurance claim submission and follow up to ensure timely payment

  • Serves on the scholarship committee and provides committee members a summary report on each application for review

  • Creates and maintains donor management systems

  • Ensures donations are received according to Board approved Gift Acceptance Policy

  • Ensures accurate donation records and coding according to donor restrictions (if applicable)

  • Provides receipts to donors for tax-deductible gifts, including year-end donation statements

  • Oversees creation and sending of periodic fund appeal letters

  • Provides reporting to CEO on donor activity and records

  • Oversees company accounts payable systems

  • Maintains proper cash balances facilitation of timely accounts payables

  • Establishes and maintains company accounts with vendors and contractors

  • Reconciles account statements and ensures proper expense coding

  • Issues year-end Form 1099 s to applicable contractors

  • Creates monthly consolidated balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement

  • Provides CEO and Board Chairman with monthly statements along with summary report

  • Prepares and presents financial statements to Board of Directors at each meeting

  • Facilitates year-end audit preparation and assistance to auditors including preparation for annual Form 990 tax filing

  • Overall cash management and planning used in company operations

  • Presents and reviews Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement (Monthly with CEO)

  • Facilitates organizational operating budget planning and coordinates with department heads for their budget creation

  • Completes fiscal year operating budget proposal for board of director s approval

  • Ensures Compliance with Lenders/Banks, Insurance Companies, Regulatory Agencies, and Tax Authorities

  • Ensures proper maintenance and storage of corporate documents, files, and archives

  • Facilitates payroll processing according to company payroll schedule

  • Provides accurate employee payroll records, including timely payments and reporting to taxing agencies

  • Ensures compliance with payroll tax laws

  • Works in conjunction with H.R. Director to ensure accurate benefits deductions

 

Requirements

  • College degree in finance and accounting or general business with an accounting specialty

  • Minimum 2-5 years previous experience in an accounting leadership role

  • Basic computer skills and a general knowledge of computer systems.

  • Specific working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word as well as the current accounting system (Quickbooks Enterprise)

  • Good interpersonal skills to work with staff, providers, and brokers

  • Time management and organizational skills
