Bell & Associates, Inc. has been engaged to find our client an established accounting professional for a newly created Controller role reporting directly to the CFO.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced managerial accounting professional to join an established organization as a controller located in the heart of Johnson County.  The controller will be charged with managing four direct reports, the budgeting/forecasting process, increasing accounting efficiencies, and all other aspects of day to day financial management.  If you are a strategic accounting leader who enjoys being in the day to day operations while increasing operational efficiencies this may be the opportunity for you?

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee financial audits, serve as main point of contact for external parties such as auditors, tax advisors, bankers and insurance brokers
  • Directly supervise an established accounting team of four
  • Areas of oversight include tax, audit, banking, property and casualty insurance, accounts payable, royalty and commission payments, inventory, corporate credit cards, expense reporting software, fixed assets, cash flow projections, budgeting/forecasting, variance analysis, financial analysis. 

  • Month end close, budgeting/forecasting, financial statement preparation & analysis, oversight of journal entries/accruals and evaluation of forecasted results to actual

  • Partner in the completion of a rolling three-year forecast including providing recommendations, process improvements, and overall financial input

  • Creation of financial models, articulation of models and communication on a regular basis with senior leadership to achieve financial goals

  • Stay current on GAAP, recommend process improvements accordingly and assurance that GAAP is strictly adhered to and necessary implementations are carried out as required by state and federal regulations

  • Provide and coordinate training for accounting staff and develop and maintain detailed cross-training structure with process documentation

  • Year end tax, state sales and use tax, and other related corporate tax functions

  • Partner with internationally based locations to ensure all parties are operating from a uniform position

 

 

 

 

 

 

Professional requirements:

 

  • 5+ years in a relevant managerial accounting role managing multiple direct reports

  • Bachelor s or higher in accounting or finance required (CPA or MBA designation highly preferred)

  • Customer service-oriented attitude with the ability to efficiently delegate responsibility

  • Potential for extended hours for month-end close which can include weekend and evenings

  • Advanced Excel and data management skills required, Oracle

  • Cognos, AP Express, SaaS, Concur software experience is a plus.  Large ERP system experience required

  • In depth understanding of GAAP with the ability to troubleshoot/resolve accounting discrepancies and department inefficiencies

  • Responsible for internal controls related to financial reporting

  • Supports professional growth of themselves as well as their team

  • Adaptive to the need at hand, changes in the company and champions change when needed
